Chambray vs. Denim

Chambray vs. Denim

While chambray and denim are often confused for one another, they’re not the same fabric. Even though both fabrics are woven with an indigo yarn in the warp and a white yarn in the weft, the difference is denim (below) is woven in a twill construction.

And Chambray is a plain woven fabric. You can often tell the difference as denim will have a much lighter under side to it whereas chambray (below) will have a more similar under side to it's top shade.

Both fabrics come in a variation of different weights. Lighter weight chambray is more popular and can often be found in many brands Spring/Summer collections. Like Denim, you can also get unwashed raw chambray fabrics which can be worn in like your favourite pair of dry jeans for some special wear over time.
